What is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing is the process by which someone promotes a company’s products or services online and earns a commission for each sale, lead, or click.

An affiliate marketer is someone who joins a brand’s affiliate program and promotes it using a special link or code provided by it, and earns a commission when a customer makes a purchase using that link.

In simple words, in affiliate marketing you do not have to create your own product, you just have to recommend the products of other companies and on every successful order you get money in the form of some percentage or fixed amount.

1. What are the benefits of affiliate marketing?

  • This is an easy way to earn money from home, where you share the affiliate link of a company’s products or services and earn commission on every sale made through that link.
  • Anyone can do affiliate marketing; you can choose any product based on your interest or niche and become its affiliate.
  • Apart from your blog, you can also share your affiliate links on social media, such as Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and other online platforms.

2. How to get started with affiliate marketing?

  • First of all, decide in which niche you want to work, that is, what kind of products or topics you are interested in.
  • After that you can sign up on beginner-friendly affiliate programs like Amazon Associates, Meesho, Flipkart Affiliate etc.
  • Create a good blog explaining about the products and do promotional promotion through the same blog.
  • Post content on your social media platforms, like make videos on YouTube, post on social media and share affiliate links on your channels, like you can also give a link in Instagram bio.
  • Focus on increasing clicks so that more and more people come to your links and conversions increase.

1. Amazon Associates:

  • Amazon is one of the oldest companies in India and in this you get commission ranging from 1% to 10%, there is a different commission rate on every product.
  • When someone buys a product from your affiliate link, that commission comes into your account within 10 to 15 days, and as soon as you have Rs 1000, you can withdraw this money to your bank.
  • In this you do not have to do much, just go to Google and create your Amazon Associates account and then share your affiliate links.

2. Flipkart Affiliate:

  • It offers the best commission, around 6% to 12% commission can be given on some categories.
  • But the payout limit is higher for newcomers; you only get the option to withdraw money to the bank if you have at least around Rs 2500–5000.
  • Therefore, initially, try to generate as many sales as possible to ensure a quick payout. To do this, promote digital products or tools on your blog, as these offer good commissions and better conversion rates.
  • Creating a Flipkart account is similar to creating an Amazon account; you simply search for “Flipkart Affiliate” on Google, create your account, and then get started.

3. Pinterest Affiliate:

  • You can drive great traffic to your website or blog because affiliate links are shared as Pins.
  • In this, you can put your Amazon and Flipkart links in the form of Pins and get good organic traffic from them.
  • Create a Pinterest business account, enable rich pins, and start creating and sharing pins related to your niche.

Basic steps to start affiliate marketing:

  • Create your account by signing up on Amazon.in/affiliate or affiliate.flipkart.com and provide the URL of your website.
  • After getting approval, generate your affiliate links and share them on your blog, Pinterest app or other social media platforms like Instagram, YouTube, website etc.
  • Drive as much traffic as possible and track conversions using SEO and social media to understand which content is driving more sales.

About Affiliate links:

  • Once you post an affiliate link on your blog or social media, it continues to work as long as the product is available and the program is running, meaning it can act like passive income.
  • You don’t need a significant investment to start affiliate marketing; you can earn money from home without much expense, just need the internet and the hard work of creating content.

My experience.

I’ve worked at Amazon and have made a good profit there. In my opinion, if you’re starting affiliate marketing, work on Amazon first, as it can easily earn up to 1,000 rupees, and you can withdraw the money to your bank account as soon as you reach 1,000 rupees.

Flipkart is also good, but the payout is higher for new people, money is withdrawn only after completing around Rs 2500, hence Amazon seems to be the best option for beginners.

Therefore, in my opinion, Amazon is the best place to start; you can also try Flipkart later. My job was to share my experience, and I have. Now, you can create accounts on both as per your convenience.
